Like running a marathon. Only, not the running part.

When we were freshmen, Dana and I had movie nights every week (we didn't have social lives, ok? Obviously that's changed...for at least one of us). Most of these nights started with us discussing what we'd watch and ended with us watching her Clean Flix copy of Zoolander (it was a lot shorter than the normal Zoolander. About an hour shorter). We also planned a lot of marathons. We'd get it into our heads that we'd watch all of the Disney movies we possessed between the two of us, or all of the Will Ferrell movies. We planned a lot of these marathons.

In all the planning we did, and the big talks we had, our marathons usually went downhill. Sure, we'd start our marathon. We'd watch Elf, but then deviate from good ol' Will and pop in Back to the Future.

Except for one glorious night.

The only marathon we ever actually finished.

For 8 hours, Dana and I basked in his glory. We watched The Derby Stallion, Hairspray, High School Musical, and High School Musical 2 (This was actually quite a feat. It wasn't out on DVD yet, so we had to find it on Tudou. That's how dedicated we were).

So why am I telling you this, nearly 4 years after the fact?

Because, tonight I got the sudden urge to have another night with Zac. Granted, there would be several more movies to add to the mix. High School Musical 3, Me and Orson Welles, 17 Again, and Charlie St. Cloud.

Zac has been slightly busy.

Maybe I'll just go watch HSM and be slightly sated.

AND, speaking of my good friend Zachary, you should all watch this video, because it may be the best piece of cinematography a Disney Channel Original Movie ever achieved. Thank you Kenny Ortega.

Harses harses harses

For the past couple of days, I've been listening to Christmas music non-stop. It's my right. It's after Thanksgiving, and we all know that Christmas music is the most glorious music of all.
I have a lot of new (to me) and awesome Christmas songs (including Jackson 5's Santa Clause is Coming to Town) and I've been listening to the classic favorites (White Christmas, The Christmas Song, The Chanuka Song, All I Want For Christmas Is You, etc.). However, there's one song I wish I had that I cannot find. It's Jingle Bells/Sleigh Ride by Roy Rogers and Dale Evans. You may know it as the song in Sleepless in Seattle where Meg Ryan sings "harses harses harses harses harses dodolodoloooo." I just want to listen to it and sing that part. It's my favorite.

Also, while watching I'll Be Home For Christmas with my childhood love Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Dana and I found this song. It is amazing.

You can't take it with you.

I watched this movie today, and I must say, it only made my love for Jimmy Stewart and Frank Capra stronger. It also made me love Lionel Barrymore. It took a while, since my only experience with him was in "It's a Wonderful Life" as Mr. Potter. But in "You Can't Take It With You?" He's wonderful. And this whole movie is just marvelous.

For those who don't know, this is Holiday Inn, and one of my all time favorite Christmas movies. I'm very excited to watch it in the near Holiday future. Although, I do usually watch it all year long, as it is about ALL holidays. Just focuses mainly on Christmas.

It's almost October, but you guys probably already know that.

But, do you know what that means?
The holiday season is starting.
The way I see it, the "holidays" are the days of candy.
And, since candy starts coming for reals in October and Easter candy is sold until mid April, I figure the holidays are from October 1st to April 30.
Today, I started the kick off of the holiday celebration.

A picture overload

So, The first time I saw this movie, I was struck by how beautiful it was. It is just about the prettiest cinematography I have ever seen. Plus, as mentioned before, I have a great love of Zooey Deschenel (and her pretty clothes in the movie).

i have a confession to make.
i love zac efron.
there. i said it.
i'm not as bad now as i used to be.
my sophomore year, i had upwards of 12 pictures of him hanging on my wall.
now i only have one.
and it's purely for nostalgic purposes.

well, today, my love came back with a vengeance.
why, you ask?

it was not at all what i thought it would be.
i almost cried (which is big for me. i don't cry in movies often) several times

so, i moved to provo 3 years ago from oklahoma.
there aren't a whole lot of people here from oklahoma.
when you say "i'm from oklahoma," you usually get the same response

i love that question.
it makes me laugh a little. of course i know that song.
we sang it all the time in elementary school.
it's the state song. we really like it there.

she lived downstairs, and later became roommates with dana.

now, we're in advertising together, and it's SO MUCH FUN to have classes with katie.
she's fun and exciting and has a very infectious laugh.
today, katie asked me if i could mention something, and this is for katie.

well, katie and dana, when they lived together, would watch that movie a lot.
over and over and over.
and i also love that movie.
it is fantastic.

k, i'm just talkin about movies a lot this week.

when i was little, probably about 9 or 10,

daisy decided that it was time kathleen and i started being educated in the finer works of literature.

as we were too young to read them (at this point in time, i doubt i'd ever finished a book) she had us watch the movies.

so, i watched Much Ado About Nothing at age 9, Romeo and Juliet (leo and claire danes) at age 12, and Henry V at about age 10.

today, we're talking about Henry V.

i'm reading it in my Shakespeare class, and it brought back a lot of memories.

i remember being inthralled by the film.

i didn't get what was going on, that's for darn sure, i kept turning around and being like "what does that mean?"

but i loved it.

kenneth branagh is amazing, christian bale brings tears.

however, the most climactic and heart wrenching part is the song sung in the end, while kenneth branagh carries the passed baby christian bale from the battlefield, and all the english carry their dead.

i don't care how many times i hear the song or watch the clip. i get choked up.

really. probably one of the best 80s movies.
john cusack plays a teenage boy trying to win back his girlfriend.
what's so great though, is that this movie illustrates how every teenager feels.
his mom is crazy
everybody wants to date his girlfriend after they break up
he's the only one who doesn't get math
it's over exaggerated and hilarious and great.

this weekend, i watched better off dead, and was reminded that i love the song from the dance scene.

and, after years of trying to find it, i finally did.
it's on my ipod, and i've been listening to it for 2 days straight.
oh man.

Some Kind Of Wonderful:
remember how all through pretty in pink you want ducky to get the girl? how no matter how many times you watch it, it still kind of breaks your heart when andy goes after blaine? well, apparently john hughes heard the pleas of the people. he wrote another movie, made ducky female, and named her watts. he called that movie some kind of wonderful. and it is wonderful.
