'Tis the Season

Almost...ish.

Today is a very chilly day here in Oklahoma. I have every intention of changing into my big puffy sweater very soon.

All I really want to do today is curl up and watch Christmas movies and listen to Christmas music.

I know, I know. It's only October 27. We're still a month away from when the radio stations start playing Christmas music and Rhema opens it's grounds to the wonderful beauties of lighted trees.

But you know what? I don't care. I'm feeling Christmasy. And you're supposed to keep the Christmas spirit with you year round, right?

So, why shouldn't I watch Elf and While You Were Sleeping (other than the fact that I don't actually own them)? Why shouldn't I have hot chocolate while listening to the miraculous vocal chords of Zooey Deschanel? You're right. There's no reason. There's also no reason you shouldn't be listening, too.

So, here you are.

Music that speaks to me.

I found this band recently. I found them because of this blog. You should go there. Zooey Deschanel is one of the starters of it. It's amazing.

ANYWAYS, I found these. Upon first listening to them, I just thought they were pretty. Then, I realized that at the beginning of some of the songs, they use quotes from great 80s movies. Like Say Anything, 16 Candles, Edward Scissorhands. One's even called JAKE RYAN! It's so fantastic. You should all listen to their music. And watch the videos. Because Summer Camp is really cool.

Icons

Often times, styles go out of fashion. Let's be honest. How many of us want to wear what we wore in middle school. Decades have certain fashion pieces that are completely iconic. Whether it's the poodle skirt or the leg warmers, these are things that everyone recognizes but nobody dares to bring back. Yes, there are the random themed parties or fallback Halloween costumes, but for everyday wear, we don't choose to wear those things. There are some things, though, that fit forever. Today, we're going to talk about hair, and those icons, that no matter how far away from their signature decade we get, we will always love their hair.

Houston, we have a problem

Yesterday at work, I was talking to a supervisor about how to make my calls better. The topic was brought up that it is evident when I become uncomfortable in a call.

While trying to find how to mask that discomfort, she asked me, "Are you a people pleaser?" The automatic answer was a resounding YES.

We then went on to talk about how she is, too and about how we both have issues with confrontation (that's for real) and neither one of us wants to ever hurt anybody's feelings or make anybody upset. That is my life. I have no ability to confront people with my feelings. Ever. Ask Dana and Bianca. It's just not possible.

Today I realized just how far this little quirk had gone with the following anecdote.
While studying today, I was listening to my She & Him station on Pandora. So far, this station was fantastic. Every song that came on was wonderful. Then one song came on that was less good. I just didn't like it, so I clicked the thumbs down, you know, so that Pandora could better improve my listening experience. A note popped up from Pandora saying that they were sorry, would take my opinion into account, and would never play that song on that station again. Great!

Here's the problem:

For a split second, I was actually afraid I had offended Pandora. The website. Not a real person, not an animal, not even a life like robot. A. Web. Site. I was actually apologizing to Pandora in my mind and considering un-clicking the thumbs down before I realized that I was worried about disrespecting an online location.

Then I just felt silly.

A picture overload

So, The first time I saw this movie, I was struck by how beautiful it was. It is just about the prettiest cinematography I have ever seen. Plus, as mentioned before, I have a great love of Zooey Deschenel (and her pretty clothes in the movie).
For one thing, there's this scene, involving one of my favorite songs, and it's just perfect.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, that is a chalkboard wall. And when I leave college and have my own dwelling that allows me to paint and choose my own wall color, I will have a chalkboard wall. It will be beautiful.

adventure of a lifetime

ok. not of a lifetime. sometimes i speak in overstatements. but here we go.

today, i decided that i needed bangs. i blame it on my current obsession with Zooey Deschanel and my lifetime (since middle school) love of Gilmore Girls (Rory's hair, season 6. look it up. actually, i'll just show you)

so, today, i decided i was in desperate need of bangs. however, i'm poor. i didn't want to spend 15 dollars for someone to cut my bangs. so i called my trusty sister. she's awesome. and i said, can i do it myself? and she said...

... yes!

so i did. it was an adventure. i also promised kathleen that i would show pictures. so, kathleen, here you go. this is my handiwork.
