I'd like to start this post by saying that I love the Beatles. So much love.
But, until recently, I was under the school of thought that there were two types of Beatles lovers.
Those who preferred their earlier hits
(Love me do, I want to hold your hand, She loves you,
You know, the more wholesome stuff)
And those who gravitated toward the more psychedelic grooves
(Lucy in the sky with diamonds, Elenor Rigby, Hey bulldog. Those greats)
I used to be the former. As I said I love the Beatles, but I would have rather taken the earlier over the later any day.
Then, yesterday, I took another, different look at those later albums.
Sgt. Pepper, Abbey Road, Yellow Submarine, etc.
Conversion.
Not that I didn't love them before, but that love grew exponentially in the last few days.
Bang Bang, Maxwell's silver hammer came down on my head.
Really?!? I've always been into the later Beatles more. I'm shocked that we've never discussed this!
ReplyDeleteIf you weren't truly converted before, listen to Golden Slumbers, Carry that Weight, and The End in succession. pure genius.
